Ohio State’s Going Back to Campus: Sophomores Granted Off-Campus Exemption

Ohio State University students will make the return to campus for the fall 2020 semester! The Ohio State University President, Michael V. Drake, recently made the announcement that in-person classes will resume on campus beginning Tuesday, August 25 with the conclusion of the semester on Friday, December 4.

While the University is still developing their social distancing methods some new implementations as part of their campuswide plan will include using facial coverings when appropriate, limited population in indoor spaces, physical distancing, hand hygiene, traffic flow control, and students, staff, and faculty will have access to COVID-19 testing.

In the University’s effort to help reduce population density on campus, the decision was also made that all second-year students will no longer be required to live on campus in the residence halls for the upcoming year. Any sophomore student who wishes to live off-campus at Ohio State for the 2020-2021 school year will need to notify University Housing by Wednesday, June 10. All first-year and returning students will be given an update by the University on or before June 19 on what they are to expect in regards to procedures as they return to campus.

The on campus live on requirement has been in place at OSU since 2016 and hasn’t been broken since. Second-year students are now given a week to hand in their decision to live off-campus for the first time in four years.
