The typical college student requires copious amounts of coffee to get through exams, finals week, and their big papers. Everyone knows about the Starbucks on the corner (every corner), but sometimes you want a little more local flair. We dug in to find the top 5 places near IUP off-campus housing to grab a cup of joe.

Caffe Amadeus is a relaxed coffee shop known for their fresh-baked European-style pastries. Enjoy your food and coffee on their large, comfy chairs arranged for small gatherings of friends and colleagues. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy their outdoor patio and bistro tables. But the real draw here – beyond the comfy interior relaxed atmosphere – is the coffee. Roasted in-house daily this is a brew you will not want to miss.

What sets the Artist Hand apart from the competition – as you might have guessed – is the art! The walls are adorned with local artists work. The shop also features various art events and classes throughout the year. Known for their specialty drinks, but the coffee is no slouch either. While the drinks are a draw, the real appeal is the culture of the Artist Hand. Live music, art, poetry readings and more make the Artist Hand a can’t miss destination.

Commonplace offers comfortable couch seating with large butcher-block coffee tables, perfect for studying or just hanging out with friends. Only a short walk from campus, Commonplace might just have the best coffee in town. The beans are roasted in-house and available for wholesale.

The Crouse Cafe is known best for one thing – breakfast! With daily specials, fresh roasted seasonal coffees and even lunch specials the Crouse Cafe is sure to become a favorite spot near the IUP campus.
