How does free food, arcade games, a bowling alley, a laundry and fitness facility, and free massages at work sound? Let’s not forget to mention Wi-Fi-enabled shuttle transportation to and from work, onsite doctors, 18 weeks paid maternity leave and education reimbursement.

These are just a few great perks Google offers their employees! This is definitely not your typical nine to five office job. Arguably the best place to work in the world, Google employees over 57,000 “Googlers” in more than 70 offices throughout 40 different countries. Google’s tech headquarters, Googleplex, is located in Mountain View, California. Business Insider ranked Google as the number two in their Best Companies To Work For In America article and Universum put Google in the number one spot for the World’s Most Attractive Employer.

So how does one land a job at Google? Using data from LinkedIn we’ve compiled a list of top schools whose graduates have moved on from college and into a career with Google.

Stanford University

Having been called “the Harvard of the 21st century” and the nation’s “it” school, Stanford, is located in the innovation mecca center, Silicon Valley. Ranked as the number one research university by Forbes, Stanford is a top choice for degrees in STEM (Science, technology, engineering, math) and business. A short twenty-minute drive stands between Stanford University and Googleplex making it a top workplace choice for students.

University of California-Berkeley

In 2016, UC-Berkeley was ranked as the number one public university by U.S News & World Report “Best Colleges,” and landed in the fourth spot for “Best Global University Rankings,” in 2017. It has also been argued that Berkeley has the best Electrical Engineering and Computer Science program and departments in the world. Steve Wozniak, cofounder of Apple Inc, and Google’s very own Eric Schmidt, who was CEO of Google from 2001-2011, are both alumni of Berkeley.

Carnegie Mellon University

Carnegie Mellon University is best known for its science and technology programs. The most popular majors chosen amongst Carnegie Mellon students are Information Technology, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering and their graduate programs at the Tepper School of Business, School of Computer Science, and Carnegie Institute of Technology are highly ranked in the nation.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, is often ranked as one of the most prestigious universities in the world. MIT offers 34 different academic programs and top research labs and facilities but is traditionally known for engineering and physical sciences. The School of Engineering ranks both nationally and internationally each year for various ranking lists.

Bill Clinton once stated that MIT has, “the best technology-transfer program in the country.” When attending MIT, students are learning from professors that are on the cutting edge or engineering and science. Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, is a professor at MIT, and it’s said that the companies started by MIT graduates would make up the 7th largest economy in the whole world.

University of California–Los Angeles

For the 2016-2017 rankings, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings gave UCLA the number 14 spot for academics and 13th place for reputation, nationally. UCLA is always among the top public universities worldwide for community involvement, research, academics and best value.

The acclaimed staff teaches 216 undergrad and graduate degrees and a number of these programs are ranked among the top twenty in their field. The most popular majors are biology, mathematics, and economics and their Anderson School of Management and Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are highly rated. Cornell University

Cornell University, the newest member of the Ivy League, is often noted for its unique academic programs. Cornell is best known for programs in architecture, hotel administration, and veterinary medicine because they are not offered at my other universities. However, Cornell does also arguably have the best engineering program out of all eight Ivy Leagues and has been ranked fourth in the world for having the largest amount of graduate students that pursue PhDs in engineering. Cornell has also been expanding and has put a focus on its new Tech Campus, offering aggressive courses in natural sciences, engineering, and computer science.

University Of Michigan–Ann Arbor

The University of Michigan has campuses in Dearborn and Flint Michigan but Ann Arbor is where the university’s core campus can be found. Students have 19 schools and over 265 degrees to choose from. The most popular choices are engineering, social sciences, and biomedical science. Highly rated across the country are the Stephen M Ross School of Business, School of Education, and College of Engineering.

The National Science Foundation has ranked UM as the number one public research university is the United States. The Wall Street Journal put UM in the number six slot as being ranked by recruiters for new hires. Co-founder of Google, Larry Page, is also an alumni of the University of Michigan.

University of Washington

The University of Washington is one of the West Coast’s oldest public schools and is held in high regard as a cutting-edge research university. The university has grown to be the most successful research facility and each year, the University of Washington receives the most federal funding out of any school across the nation to better further their research institution.

Each year at the Undergraduate Research Symposium, students present their research to the community. Internationally, U.S. News & World Report ranked UW as the 11th Best Global University. Academic Ranking of World Universities put UW in the 15th spot amongst 500 other universities. The University of Washington’s top schools are the College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and the Michael G. Foster School of Business.

University of Illinois–Urbana-Champaign

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, or U of I, is a member of the Association of American Universities and under the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education is classified as a R1 Doctoral Research University which is the highest level of research activity for a university. U of I is made up of 17 different colleges that offer students over 150 different programs.

After Harvard, it has the second largest library system in the United States. The university specializes in several programs like Digital Marketing and the College of Engineering is ranked as one of the top five engineering schools in the world. Ranked by U.S. News and World Report, the Accounting program, Computer Science, Chemistry all ranked within the top ten in their categories.

University of Southern California

The University of Southern California is the state’s oldest private research university. In the 2017 U.S News & World Report USC ranked 23rd and Niche ranked USC in their Best Colleges ranking as number 10 for the overall quality of student life and academics. The University of Southern California has many high ranked schools but is primarily known for its engineering, business, medicine, and cinematic studies.

The Princeton Review put the USC video game design program as number one out of 150 schools in the US. Historically, USC has educated a high number of business leaders and it maintains a strong sense of innovation. USC alumni have founded companies such as Lucasfilm and Myspace. USC houses the world’s most powerful quantum computer and the only other available quantum computing system is jointly operated by NASA and Google.

University of California–San Diego

Recognized as a Public Ivy, the University of California San Diego, UC San Diego, offer students over 200-degree programs, both undergraduate and graduate. Only four decades old, UC San Diego has risen to be one of the most sought after public research universities. There are six undergraduate colleges and three graduate schools. Harvard University

New York University

With over 44,000 students, New York University, or NYU, is the largest private non-profit research university and is considered to be one of the most influential universities. A member of the Association of America, NYU offers seventeen schools and over 150 undergraduate programs. NYU’s main campus is located in Greenwich Village in New York City. However, it has two branch campuses in Shanghai, China and Abu Dhabi and eleven other “study away sites” around the world.

The most popular majors are Visual and Performing Arts (the Tisch School of Arts is world-renowned), Social Sciences, Business Management, and Marketing. The Center for World University Rankings ranked NYU as the 18th best overall globally. ABC News put NYU in the number five spot for universities with the highest number of alumni’s to be worth over $30 million. The faculty and alumni are comprised of 30 Academy Award Winners, 30 Pulitzer Prize winners, astronauts, inventors, and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies.

Columbia University

Columbia University, which is one of the eight Ivy Leagues, is a private research university in Manhattan, New York City and the oldest university in the state of New York. Columbia offers over 100 different majors to students and thousands of different internship and research opportunities.
