In a college town like Oshkosh, there’s plenty of exploring you can do while you’re at school. But what if you don’t have a car? You might be thinking you’ll never be able to get out there, but don’t panic. UW-Oshkosh has their students in mind and provides several options of transportation for those students who don’t have a car, or who want to reduce their carbon footprint.
We read the transportation reviews on College Niche to see which options students thought were the best way to get around town.
City Buses and Titan Transit
If you’re trying to run some errands during the day, you can hop on a GO Transit bus. They travel all over town, run Monday through Saturday from 6:15 AM – 6:15 PM, and are free for students with a TitanCard. Once you’ve gotten your errands out of the way, you might want to go out at night to get dinner or catch a movie with a friend somewhere in town. From 6:30 PM – 10:00 PM Monday through Saturday, you can ride the Titan Transit buses, which run for free, specifically with students in mind, to easily get where you want to go. And when you’re going out on the weekends, you can safely catch a ride from the campus area to Downtown and back with the Late Night bus. These buses run Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 PM – 3:00 AM on a loop about every 15 minutes.

A student on Niche said: Transportation on campus is excellent. Students get to ride the city transit for free with your student ID card. We have a late night bus that will take you to convenience stores, department stores, and grocery stores at night when the city transit bus is closed.
Zimride
If you want to take a car somewhere around campus or even farther, you can sign up for ridesharing through Zimride. The service is free for students to sign up and use, and you can choose to be a driver or a passenger to save money and go green. The site requires a UW-Oshkosh NetID to access, so you know all of the riders are students, faculty, and staff. You can access the site here to start ridesharing.
A sophomore on Niche said: Ride sharing is the most useful type of transportation. Try to find someone else who goes home at the same time or lives near your hometown, that way you cut down on pollution if you both basically go to the same place.
Walking or Biking
Oshkosh’s small town feel and tight campus community make it easy to walk or bike to where you need to go. Not only is it healthy, but it also reduces your carbon footprint. UW-Oshkosh cares about sustainability and has many resources on their website including their Safe Walk program and a map of the bike racks in the campus area.
A freshman on Niche said: Cars? Who needs them? Oshkosh isn’t really big enough to make a car a necessity. Buses go everywhere that you need them to go within the city and the campus itself is small enough for walking.
