Going away to college is probably the first taste of freedom for many students, but problems may arise if you don’t have a car to bring to school with you. This can seem like a big deal when heading to college, but luckily for you, there are ways to get around without a vehicle. And apartments near Marquette University have plenty of options to get you from Point A to Point B.
We checked the transportation reviews on College Niche to see what students said were the best ways to get around.
Marquette LIMOs
LIMO stands for Local Intercampus Mobile Operations. Although these might not be of the stretch variety (even though the vans hold up to 13 people), the LIMO is Marquette’s personal solution for students who need to get around without their own set of wheels. Completely free and exclusive to Marquette students and staff with a school ID, the LIMO will pick you up and take you to and from any point on or around the campus area from 5 PM to 3 AM any day of the year.
A freshman said: We have campus LIMOs that constantly circle campus. You can even call the safety services and they will send one to your location to pick you up.
Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS)
If you need to head a little farther off campus to explore the city of Milwaukee, use your Marquette U-Pass (given to every student) to catch the bus. Marquette students get unlimited free rides with this pass. Check out the MCTS website to see bus lines and schedules to plan your next trip around town.
A junior said: Marquette offers all full-time students seasonal bus passes. These are great if you don’t want to have to pay to have a car on campus. I take the bus nearly every two weeks while I am at school for a variety of reasons, either to go to the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa or to get down to the lake.
Biking or Walking
A great thing about Marquette’s campus and surrounding area is how compact it is. Everything you could want from food to entertainment is within a short walk or bike ride of campus. Walk Score gives Marquette an 86 which makes it “very walkable” so don’t be afraid to venture out. There’s plenty of bike racks all over campus and the surrounding areas, and both walking and biking have great health benefits.
A senior said: The campus and surrounding area are compact enough so that most destinations are within walking distance.
